Aromatherapy

Aromatherapy is the use of essential oils as a complementary therapy to aid wellbeing.

Essential oils possess a wide range of healing properties that can be used effectively to keep you in the best of health as well as looking good. These health-giving benefits including improving the complexion of your skin by stimulating cellular renewal, balancing roller-coaster emotions and fighting bacteria, fungi and other forms of infection.

The roots of aromatherapy can be traced back more than 3500 years before the birth of Christ, to a time when the use of aromatics was first recorded. However, the word aromatherapy was first used as recently as the 1920 by French chemist Rene-Maurice Gattefosse who devoted his life to researching the healing properties of essential oils after an accident in his perfume laboratory. He set his arm on fire and thrust it into the nearest cold liquid which happened to be a vat of lavender oil. Immediately he noticed surprising pain relief and instead of experiencing the usual redness, heat, inflammation, blisters and scarring, this burn healed extremely quickly with minimal discomfort and no scarring.

It has long been understood that preventative measures go a very long way towards protecting the body against all types of illness. Therefore the relaxing and de-stressing influence of essential oils and their effect on the immune system places aromatherapy high on our shopping list of essentials for wellbeing.

Because essential oils are highly concentrated, only a small amount is necessary for optimum results.
